My Music

Original Composition for Orchestra

Topaz Hills

Daniel wrote this piece for the CSUN Studio Ensemble, who premiered it in 2023 and recorded it later that year. The piece captures the feeling of joy and paradise, and the journey it takes to achieve.

Duet for Piano and Percussion

Infinitum Desiderium

In the fall of 2023, the CSUN percussion ensemble included this duet, a co-composition between Daniel Neufeld and Sera Hornstein, in their annual percussion ensemble performance. The duet utilizes a unique technique of striking a crotale with another crotale, opening up a world of timbral possibilities.

Original Vibraphone Solo

Red Balloon

Red Balloon is a composition for a solo vibraphonist and spoken prose, which explores the nostalgic longing for childhood and simplicity. The red balloon symbolizes childlike innocence; the loss of the balloon therefore symbolizes the loss of the inner child. The balloon's return represents the struggle to recoup the childlike wonder for the world. The piece ends on an ambiguous note; whether or not the balloon's return offers reprieve from the longing is up to the performer and the audience to determine.

Original String Quartet

Melody for the End of the World

Daniel had the pleasure of writing this string quartet for the Beo String Quartet, a phenomenal group of nationally recognized musicians who were kind enough to come to CSUN to work with students on their original compositions.

Original Soundtrack

Missing Links

"Missing Links" is a mini TV series created by CSUN CTVA students, with an original soundtrack by Daniel Neufeld featuring orchestral strings, brass, and percussion. Shown here is episode three, but the whole series can be viewed on its YouTube channel.
